Covid-19 is restricting all our freedoms so I empathise with this man stuck in a tree, trying to stay a safe distance from the virus.
In 2014 I shot a series based on a virus stalking someone. After some research I decided that a generic coronavirus would be most recognisable and got in touch with Nina Dodd and her friend Sue, who were eager to knit giant microbes.
I photographed on the South Downs near Brighton. I was pleased with the pictures but most people I showed them to didn’t recognise the virus at the time. Unfortunately our world has changed and we all know what a coronavirus looks like now.
The series suddenly seems horribly relevant: like the model, we need to distance ourselves from Covid-19.
Stay home, stay safe.
