Side by side for Caisse d'Epargne bank

Over the last few months I’ve been working on lots of side by side images. This campaign was for the bicentenary of French bank Caisse d’Epargne, with agency Altmann + Pacreau. Each picture depicts a facet of life 200 years ago and pairs it with today’s equivalent: an early wooden bicycle with a hoverboard, a painting in an ornate frame with a graffitied wall, a leather-bound book with a Kindle.

The most challenging pictures to produce were the portraits. We photographed a soldier with a natty moustache next to a heavily bearded hipster and a lady in an ornate hat juxtaposed with a woman with a baseball cap. We used different models on each side (hipsters don’t just shave half their beard off, obvs) and cast around 30 different people to ensure a good match. I tested each possible combination - I had never realised how much face structure could vary from person to person. Thanks for the amazing casting, Yasmine!
